Buying a house on Bonaire: Villa, Bungalow or Apartment?

When the decision is made to buy a (second) home on Bonaire, the next question is: What are you going to buy? A villa? A nice bungalow? Apartment? Studio?

Of course, a large part of this decision depends on the budget, but also keep in mind what you want to do with your purchase. Not only now, but also in the future. Are you going to live there yourself? Will you rent it out for long or short term?

And if you do rent it out, will you rent it out yourself or through a broker or rental agency?

All these points are things that influence your choice.

A villa offers lots of space and comfort, villas feature multiple bedrooms and bathrooms on different levels, spacious kitchens, living room areas and often also a lot of outdoor space. The outdoor spaces usually include a garden, swimming pool, a porch, a garage and storage space in a separate
building. All of these things are wonderful to have, but they can also be very demanding when it comes to cleaning, maintenance and costs.

Apartments come in all shapes and sizes, from large to small and luxurious to more standard. Oftentimes there is a communal swimming pool and/or garden which gives you somewhat less privacy but the advantage of central maintenance and cleaning.

Bungalows are a nice mix between the two. A bungalow is also spacious with all the comforts that you need and everything is on one level. The indoor and outdoor spaces often walk together. A bungalow often has a private garden with a swimming pool, but can also be situated on a small resort where the pool and the garden are shared.
